Alejandra Valdez, AMFT
I am delighted to work with couples of all ages and cultural backgrounds, as well as individuals and families. I find great satisfaction in supporting couples at different stages of their journey. Whether it's helping new couples establish strong foundations, guiding those deciding whether to stay together or part ways, or assisting those navigating life after significant losses such as death, infidelity, or illness, I am dedicated to fostering healthy relationships.
My therapeutic style is respectful, fair, honest, and warm. I trust in my clients, the therapeutic process, and myself, which makes me hopeful and committed to instilling hope in my clients. Therapy with me can be both serious and fun, as I believe humor is an important part of life. My role is to accompany my clients on their unique journeys and guide them toward their goals. I strive to make my clients feel seen and heard.
I was born and raised in Mexico and moved to the U.S. to attend UCSD, where I initially pursued a career in international business. After several years, I felt the need for a change and studied contemporary gestalt therapy in Mexico, practicing there for a year. To practice in the U.S., I earned a master's in clinical counseling and am now an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I have trained at The Elizabeth Hospice, working with individuals, couples, and families experiencing loss and grief. My training includes Gottman Level 1, the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Healing Trauma from a Relational Gestalt Perspective, and I am working toward certification in treating complex trauma.
I enjoy cycling, traveling, cooking, reading, and playing board games with my family. Balance is very important to me, and I strive to lead a balanced life. I am married and have four young adult children.
